The Network IQ at the 2018 International Metropolis Conference

29 October - 2 November 2018, Sydney, Australia

The Network IQ (Integration through Qualification) is honoured and excited to be participating in the 2018 International Metropolis Conference in Sydney, Australia! As an experienced programme that supports the labour market participation of immigrants and refugees in Germany—a country which, in recent years, has attracted international attention for its commitment to and investments into migrant integration—we look forward to exchanging experiences with international peers, while reflecting together on the global challenges and opportunities of migration in these dynamic times.

In a series of thematically diverse workshops, representatives of the Network IQ have partnered up with experts, policymakers and practitioners from other countries. Each of these workshops will discuss a specific area of intervention that is key to economic and social inclusion of migrants and refugees.

IQ and Metropolis: A story of exchange and partnership

Over the past few years, experts and practitioners from the Network IQ have become "regulars" at International Metropolis. For us, this conference has come to be an exceptional opportunity to look at the work we do from a broader, deeper, and more global point of view. Year after year, the stimuli, conversations, exchanges and partnerships that Metropolis makes possible have helped us rethink our approaches and design innovative integration projects. And they have allowed us to share the Network IQ's experiences and achievements with an international community of leaders and experts. The partnership between the Network IQ and Metropolis culminated in two Symposiums on migrant integration, which took place in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

About the Network IQ

The Network "Integration through Qualification (IQ)" is a programme aimed at improving the employment prospects of immigrants in Germany. It was established in 2005 and is currently funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the European Social Fund (ESF). In almost 400 projects all around Germany, the Network IQ offers a wide range of specialist support services. Its counselling points on credential recognition help skilled immigrants get their foreign diplomas and certificates recognized, thus allowing them to find a job that is in line with their abilities and aspirations. The Network IQ’s training courses provide migrants and refugees with tailored opportunities for upskilling and reskilling in several occupations. Additionally, the Network IQ supports public service providers (such as employment agencies) as well as private employers by developing intercultural openness and diversity strategies.
